Established in 1819, Bennettsville was named after Thomas Bennett who was governor of South Carolina at that time. Today, Bennettsville is still the county seat of Marlboro county and is filled with wonderful, friendly people who would love to have an opportunity to meet you.
The area in and around Bennettsville is rich in history; spanning from our revolution to the present.
There is plenty to do in Bennettsville. Centrally located to the mountains or the beach, the area has a lot to offer. Tours, golf, fishing, hunting, lakes, rivers, wildlife preserves, just about anything you would like to take in is either in town or nearby.
Take a day trip to Charleston, Myrtle Beach or Charlotte. Walk around beautiful Lake Paul Wallace. Maybe you would like to take in a production at the Civic Center or a walking tour of downtown.

The South Carolina Cotton Trail consists of 6 towns, Clio, Bennettsville, Cheraw, Society Hill, Hartsville, and Bishopville, as you travel the trail, you will find wonderful museums, gardens, market towns, cotton fields and homesteads. Take time to tour the Cotton Trail as it winds you through the heart of American Southern History.
